Dr. Erik Szeto, Founder and Chairman of AHSC
I’m a primary care doctor. I’m usually the one who informs the patient of their cancer diagnosis. No matter how gentle I try to be, I can always sense their disappointment, their fear, anxiety and sadness and I know that they have a long and difficult journey ahead of them. The Center was built because we recognized the struggle of Asian patients who have not had the right kind of medical care. Language barrier, cultural differences, and even the perception of illness and death have a tremendous impact on the quality of care received. It is our mission to not only help the patients navigate the difficult journey of cancer, but also provide educational resources, counseling and a space for support groups within a culturally and linguistically appropriate setting.
